EPA Announces $30 Million Water Grants

April 22nd, 2026

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $30 million in grant funding through its RealWaterTA initiative to support small and rural communities in improving drinking water and wastewater systems. The funding will provide technical assistance and training, including engineering support, workforce development, and financial management.

The initiative targets small systems, which often struggle with aging infrastructure, limited funding, and staffing challenges. It also aims to help private well owners improve water quality.  Over 90% of U.S. drinking water systems serve fewer than 10,000 people

Up to five total grants will be awarded to eligible organizations such as nonprofits and educational institutions, which will work directly with communities to ensure safe, compliant water systems under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The application period is open for 30 days via Grants.gov, and the program is part of EPA’s broader effort to strengthen water infrastructure and public health nationwide.  For more information, click here.
