October 15th, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) and the Pennsylvania Downtown Center announced $380,000 in WalkWorks grants to support communities in developing Active Transportation Plans aimed at improving pedestrian, bicycle, and transit networks. The initiative promotes physical activity, enhances public health, and strengthens local economies by creating safer, more accessible routes that connect community destinations.

Grant recipients will work with planners over the next year to assess local conditions, gather public input, and design strategies for expanding walkability and active transportation. The program is supported by partnerships with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and other state agencies.
