April 29th, 2026Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A)
A federal grant program created under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to reduce roadway deaths and serious injuries. It provides $5 billion (2022–2026) and supports the National Roadway Safety Strategy using a Safe System Approach.
Goal:
Achieve zero roadway deaths (Vision Zero) and improve safety, especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
Who can apply:
MPOs, local and regional governments, Tribal governments, and partnerships.
Grant types:
- Planning & Demonstration: Create safety plans or test strategies
- Implementation: Fund projects like intersection redesigns, bike lanes, and speed management
2026 funding:
- ~$1 billion available
- Deadline: May 26, 2026
Strong applications include:
- A safety action plan
- Data-driven risk analysis
- Equity focus
- Measurable outcomes
- Community support
Eligible projects:
Infrastructure upgrades, traffic calming, pedestrian/bike improvements, lighting, signage, and safety data systems.
Municipal Fire Department Capital Grant
Deadline: May 29, 2026
Grants of $25,000–$100,000 are available to support fire department facilities and training needs.
Eligible uses:
- Building, renovating, or upgrading stations that house fire, EMS, or rescue vehicles
- Purchasing or converting structures for emergency response use
- Buying or repairing firefighting, ambulance, or rescue equipment for training
Focus:
Projects should improve operational readiness, firefighter safety, and emergency response capabilities.
Emergency Service Training Center Capital Grant
Deadline: May 29, 2026
Provides funding to support emergency service training providers.
Eligible uses:
- Building or upgrading facilities that house fire, EMS, or rescue vehicles
- Purchasing, renovating, or constructing training-related structures
- Buying or repairing firefighting, ambulance, or rescue equipment for training
Focus:
Strengthen training capacity, facility readiness, and emergency response support.
Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP)
Deadline: May 31, 2026
Funded through the Marcellus Legacy Fund (Act 13 of 2012), this program supports park, trail, and open space projects.
Funding:
- Up to $250,000 per project
- 15% match required
Eligible applicants:
Municipalities, councils of governments, nonprofits/authorized organizations, higher education institutions, watershed organizations, and for-profit businesses.
Eligible uses:
Planning, development, rehabilitation, and improvement of parks, trails, greenways, open space, and river conservation projects.
Abandoned Mine Drainage
Deadline: May 31, 2026
Purpose:
Restore and protect waterways impacted by AMD, which affects over 5,500 miles of streams statewide.
Eligible uses:
- AMD treatment systems
- Abatement and remediation projects
- Watershed restoration and water quality improvements
Focus:
Improve water quality, ecosystem health, and environmental restoration.
Growing Greener Plus
Deadline: June 22, 2026
A set of Pennsylvania environmental grant programs supporting watershed restoration, stormwater planning, and mine land reclamation.
Includes three programs:
- Growing Greener (Watershed Restoration & Protection)
- Act 167 Stormwater Management Planning Grants
- SMCRA Bond Forfeiture Program
Purpose:
Address nonpoint source pollution (NPS)—a major cause of water impairment in Pennsylvania (about 54% of impaired waterways).
Key pollution sources include:
- Acid mine drainage
- Agricultural and urban runoff
- Septic systems
- Construction and land disturbance
- Stream and land use changes
Eligible uses:
- Watershed restoration and protection projects
- Stormwater management planning
- Mine land reclamation and environmental cleanup
- Local watershed-based planning and implementation
Focus:
Improve water quality by reducing widespread pollution through local, watershed-based restoration and planning efforts.
Section 319 Nonpoint Source Management Grant
Deadline: June 22, 2026
A federal-pass-through grant program funded by the U.S. EPA under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act to address nonpoint source (NPS) pollution in Pennsylvania.
Multimodal Transportation Fund (DCED)
Deadline: July 31, 2026
A Pennsylvania state grant program supporting transportation improvements that enhance safety, connectivity, and economic development.
Funding range:
- Minimum: $100,000
- Maximum: $3,000,000
Purpose:
Improve transportation infrastructure to support safe, reliable, and economically strong communities.
Eligible uses:
- Streetscape improvements and roadway enhancements
- Sidewalk construction and upgrades
- Lighting and pedestrian safety projects
- Connectivity between transportation systems
- Transit-oriented development projects
- Rehabilitation of existing transportation assets
Focus:
Strengthen community infrastructure by improving mobility, safety, and access to transportation networks.
