National Preparedness Month: 30 Days/30 Ways

August 19th, 2019

In the past year, Pennsylvanians have experienced historic rain and flooding in areas that have never flooded before. Recent data shows that a significant number of homes affected by flooding were not in a flood zone and many found the recovery process to be challenging, if not completely insurmountable. September is National Preparedness Month and the theme is, “Prepared, Not Scared.”

Just as an emergency can affect an entire community, the entire community is part of the solution when it comes to preparing for and recovering from an emergency. You can help your community members be better prepared by encouraging them to participate in the 30 Days, 30 Ways campaign, sponsored by the PA Emergency Management Agency.

If it is predictable, it is preventable. We know that we get rain, flooding, power outages, heat, cold, and snow. “Prepared, Not Scared” focuses on the conscious decision to get started now, before it’s too late. By encouraging your community members to sign up for 30 Days, 30 Ways to be Prepared on your website, through social media, or in your newsletters, you are providing an opportunity for your constituents to learn simple ways to get started or to continue on their path to being prepared. From alerts to protecting belongings, those participating will receive tips and information that can save a life.
